New On Line Payment System

Wollaston School are working towards allowing more of our opportunities to be paid through an online payment system by introducing the Tucasi Online Payments system. This means that you will be able to pay for future trips and visits online.

Tomorrow, (Thursday, 19th April 2012) all students will be given a letter to take home to parents – this will include a private Pupil Link Code for each student at the school.

The Carnegie Medal

The Carnegie Medal is awarded each year to an outstanding children’s book. This year the shortlist contains some really fantastic reads.

So far I’ve read‘Trash’, an unputdownable story which follows three boys sifting rubbish and finding something extraordinary. ‘Everybody Jam’set on a cattle station in the Australian outback and vividly told by Danny, who misses his brother. ‘A Monster Calls’ a really powerful, harrowing read with amazing text and illustrations and ‘My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece’ another brilliant read that will make you laugh and cry. Which one is my favourite so far? A very difficult question! I think maybe ‘My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece’ for sending me on a rollercoaster of emotions, but the others are fantastic too…… Borrow one from the School Library today and tell us what you think! The official winner will be announced in June – will we agree with their choice?

Young Enterprise

The Young Enterprise Area Final was held at Wickstead Park, Kettering on 5th March 2012. Directors of the Wrapped and Packed company from Year 12 gave a presentation about their experiences of running their own business. They were also interviewed about their achievements after their company report had been read by the judging panel of local business people.

Here’s what Matt Jones, one of the Directors of Wrapped and Packed had to say about the event:

We all had a great time, both preparing for the evening and undertaking it. Standing up in front of such a large audience was very daunting but fortunately it went well and will hopefully prove a vital piece of experience in the world of work.
