Welcome to the Additional Needs Department

The Additional Needs Team are committed to ensuring all pupils are equipped to access the full curriculum and develop as confident independent learners aspiring to excel in their areas of strength and to improve in the areas they find challenging.
Many students may require additional education provision at some point during their time at Wollaston. The Additional Needs Team provides targeted learning support to students of all abilities and needs throughout the school via specialist teaching, equipment and facilities.
The department’s base provides calm, nurturing environment for quiet study and is staffed by experienced and trained staff.
Examples of ways the ANT works with students and staff:
- Trained and caring staff provide classroom based subject specific learning support
- Afterschool homework club
- Development of peer driven support for Gifted and Talented Students
- Netbooks for students with specific and long term literacy difficulties
- Personalised curriculum, including possible additional small group literacy lessons
- Access to ICT suite to aid integration following injury or operation
- Pastoral mentoring for confidence building and study skills
- Access arrangements for examinations and controlled assessments
- Lunchtime games club to support social skills and self-esteem
- Outside specialised professionals provide advice, training and support to staff
