After a weekend of training and a practice expedition, on 1st & 2nd October 25 year 11 students embarked on their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Assessment Expedition.
The scene was perfect in the glorious countryside of the county of Rutland and it was the hottest weekend October has seen in a long while!
Maps in one hand and sun cream applied the students set off on the bright Saturday morning for two full days walking with an overnight camp along route. Students carry all they need for the two day expedition in one rucksack so some careful packing is required to fit all the food (and sweets) and kit required to last the duration.
The expedition was tough in the heat but 30km later the following Sunday afternoon all students had successfully completed their expedition; the time to open those unused emergency rations was here! We left Wollaston at 8.15am the previous day with a group of eager students and returned with some tired yet triumphant individuals who all should be extremely proud of their achievements.
Congratulations to all Year 11 students; Amber Sacke, Amy Marsh, Claire Gilchrist, Cleo Panayis, Dan Pateman, Eddie Mann, Emily Smith, Harry Bounds, Jake Lucas, Kieren Watson, Lawrence Jefferies, Lee Humberstone, Levi Moore, Lily Leighton, Matt Crisp, Matt Tibbles, Natasha Bennell, Oliver Smith, Olivia Hawkins, Sadie Whiting, Sam Cotter, Sian May, Tayla Bedells, Thomas Houghton, Tom Wright.
